Event Overview

Each December 6th, Japanese and American citizens gather at the USS Arizona Memorial to acknowledge the tragedy of war and renew a promise of peace through the Blackened Canteen Ceremony. Afterward, Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor hosts the Blackened Canteen Youth Symposium to commemorate this story of forgiveness, reconciliation, and friendship borne out of the horror of World War II.

The Symposium will be held at the Museum’s theater from 10-11 am.  It will feature Dr. Hiroya Sugano, the caretaker for the Blackened Canteen, and several WWII veterans.  These speakers will address themes reflected in legacy of the Blackened Canteen.
