Located on Ford Island, in the heart of Pearl Harbor, Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor stewards the buildings, artifacts and stories of this WWII American Battlefield. Museum grounds incorporate two authentic WWII hangars and the iconic Ford Island Control Tower that weathered the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Together, the buildings, with the exhibits and aircraft displayed inside, share a story of national resilience, patriotism and honor.
The Historic Buildings
Hangar 37 details the attack on Pearl Harbor and the major battles that unfolded in the Pacific region during 1942. Aircraft, displays, and educational interpretation provide visitors a deeper understanding of the events that changed our world, including the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor attack, the Doolittle Raid on Japan, the Battles of Midway and Guadalcanal, and much more.
Hangar 79, with holes in the windows made from bullets fired on December 7, 1941, continues the story. A WWII aircraft assembly and maintenance hangar, visitors will not only see remarkable examples of WWII aircraft, but also examples of the technology that evolved following the war. Korean, Vietnam, and more recent era, examples of innovative aircraft and helicopters provide a unique and up-close view of more modern military equipment. No museum “toe-rails” in this hangar, visitors can explore, touch, and — in some cases — get inside some of these historic aircraft.
